Residents of Brgys. Trinidad and Taft, Surigao City, recover what’s left of their homes as Typhoon Odette flattens communities right before the holidays. Survivors also continue to clamor for food and water as supplies run dry.

Meanwhile, Greenpeace calls for immediate relief and recovery efforts, while maintaining its stance that the climate crisis needs to be addressed in the long-term lest the country suffers more of its dire consequences.

“The disaster brought up our collective trauma from previous typhoons such as Sendong and Yolanda, and reminded us that these extreme weather events are now a norm as the climate crisis worsens every year,” said Greenpeace Southeast Asia Executive Director Yeb Saño. “We demand that our institutions see this as another wake-up call — and this time, they have to take it seriously.” (Erwin Mascarinas/ Greenpeace photo)
