Partido Reporma standard-bearer Senator Panfilo Lacson says “let us not allow ourselves to be partner of thieves” as the country marks the National Bible Day today, January 31.

For a long time, Lacson said “we have witnessed how corruption, the worst form of thievery continues to destroy our nation.”

“And we only have ourselves to blame,”

He recalled his mother, whom he described as “woman of faith who always loved God”, who taught them the importance of the Bible as the source of hope, guidance, and strength.

One of the verses in the Bible that is closest to his heart, the senator said, is the text in the Gospel of John in Chapter 10 and verse 10 where Jesus said: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.”

“These words speak of our greatest challenge as a nation: the deeply entrenched thievery that steals and kills and destroys— a sin contrary to the law of God, so does the act of anyone who joins the thief by keeping a blind eye on his selfish act,” he stressed.

“Just for one day, on Election Day, let us not allow ourselves to be partners of the thieves. Let us stand mightily against the evils of their actions.”

“Let us continue to feed our spirit with the wisdom of God’s words and express our gratitude for the Light of Christ that guides our path against the wicked and towards the good,” he said.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed in 2019 a law declaring the last Monday of January of every year as a National Bible Day. The law, which was championed by Sen. Manny Pacquiao in the Senate, recornizes the value of the Holy Bible in a predominantly Christian country in the Asia Pacific region. – The Sun Monitor
