Authorities seize almost 0.5M shabu in Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur operations

Authorities seized a total of P497,000 worth of suspected crystal meths, popularly known as shabu, in separate anti-drug operations in Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur over the weekend.

Jalil Maguilis, Johaiver Mamalumpong Usop, Jhonari Mamalacat and Alenajer Manalao, who fell in a sting in Barangay Rumidas in Buldon town in Maguindanao are now detained, awaiting prosecution.

The entrapment operation that resulted in their arrest was jointly carried out by the PDEA-BARMM, personnel of the Navy’s 5th Marine Battalion and units of the Maguindanao Provincial Police Office.

The suspects were immediately cuffed and detained after selling P136,000 worth of shabu to non-uniformed anti-narcotics agents disguised as drug dependents.

The operatives also confiscated from them two M16 assault rifles, an M14 rifle and ammunition of assorted calibers.

In a statement on Monday, June 27, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-BARMM) said the suspects shall be charged separately with violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and illegal possession of assault rifles.

In Lanao del Sur, police operatives were out to arrest a man for allegedly keeping undocumented firearms nabbed two men instead whom they seized P361,000 worth of shabu.

Brig. Gen. Arthur Cabalona, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), said on Tuesday, June 28, the two suspects are now in the custody of the local police in Marantao town in Lanao del Sur.

He declined to identify the suspects pending the arrest of their companion, who managed to escape while personnel of the municipal police force and the Lanao del Sur Provincial Police were approaching their hideout in Barangay Nataron in Marantao.

Police officers who led the raiding team told reporters they caught the two men sniffing shabu in the lair of the person who is wanted for keeping unlicensed firearms.

Cabalona said the two suspects from whom policemen had confiscated P361,000 worth of shabu are to be prosecuted for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (John Unson)
