A suspected bomb expert of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) was killed in an encounter with the military before dawn on Monday, July 18, at Barangay Duguengen in Shariff Saydona, Maguindanao.
Personnel of the Army’s 33rd Infantry Battalion shot dead Ramos Amilil, the alleged bomb-maker of BIFF.
Amilil’s companions immediately escaped before the Army reinforcements arrived on the scene.
The soldiers belonging to the Army’s 33rd Infantry Battalion were dispatched to the area by the Army’s 6th Infantry Division before midnight Monday after villagers reported the presence of heavily-armed BIFF members in the area.
Soldiers found beside Amilil’s cadaver M14 and M16 assault rifles.

Amilil, known in the local communities as expert in fabrication of improvised explosive devices, was tagged, along with some 20 others, in recent bombings in central Mindanao.
Army units under the 6th ID are bracing for possible attacks by the BIFF to avenge the death of Amilil. (John Unson)
