Military claimed a regional official of the New People’s Army (NPA) and two other comrades were killed in a brief clash in Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat on Saturday, July 30.

Military officials identified the slain communist guerrillas as Ian Dela Rama, and his companions as Valerio Lacumbo and Wilmer Dela Cruz.

Major Gen. Roberto Capulong, commanding officer of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division,  said Dela Rama was the head of the Regional Operations Command-Far South Mindanao Region.

The slain NPA official and his two companions died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds they sustained in a clash with soldiers in Barangay Baluan in the seaside town of Palimbang on Saturday morning.

Dela Cruz and companions fired first at soldiers who were dispatched to check on the presence of armed men in a secluded area in Barangay Baluan.

Soldiers found two M16 assault rifles, two .45 caliber pistols, and bags filled with explosives beside the cadavers of Dela Rama and his two companions.
