Two women killed, 4 soldiers hurt in Maguindanao clashesApril 29, 2021
MAGUINDANAO – Two women were killed while four soldiers were wounded in gunfights between the military and members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Datu Saudi Ampatuan town Friday.
Badria Alon, 40, and the 24-year-old Lagabai Mohalidin, died on the spot from shrapnel wounds.
The slain women were trapped in the crossfire between BIFF gunmen and Army personnel dispatched to check on sightings of gunmen in Barangay Kitango in Datu Saudi Ampatuan.
Unnamed sources said mortars from the Army positions had hit the two women.
Responders rushed the third blast victim, Noraisa Omar, 34, to a hospital for treatment.
Lt. Col. John Paul Baldomar, spokesman of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, said the hostilities in Barangay Kitango erupted when BIFF bandits fired at soldiers deployed to secure the area.
The clashes had left four soldiers wounded, Baldomar said.
He said the 6th ID is now probing on allegations that mortars launched from Army positions nearby had accidentally hit Alon and Mohalidin.
The BIFF has a reputation for attacking civilians to avenge deaths of members killed in clashes with pursuing state security forces.
Series of encounters between the government forces and the BIFF in Barangay Kitango three weeks ago had killed at least 10 of its members. (ju/amm)
