Unidentified gunmen have killed Sunday the village chief of Baliguian, Zamboanga del Norte, nine months after the town vice mayor and his escorts were killed in an ambush.
The police had identified the victim as Joseph Tejero, barangay captain of Barangay Poblacion, Baliguian town.
Witnesses said the village chief was with two village constituents around 1 p.m. of Sunday, October 4. While conversing with his constituents, the two suspects riding a motorcycle arrived.
Clad in civilian attire and face masks on, one suspect approached the victim and fired at him five times. The suspects fled after the incident.
Tejero died on the spot because of gunshot wounds on his head and neck.
The police have yet to determine the motive of the killing.
In January, this year, the town vice mayor along with his two escorts died in an ambush by still unidentified gunmen.
Weeks later, the town policeman had also died in a gun attack.
The killings have remained unsolved.
